Michael Dowling Encourages Private Sector to Address Racial Disparities
Michael Dowling, President and CEO of Northwell Health, discusses how the outcomes of the pandemic have shifted the public’s perspective on race and equality.
In a conversation with Dr. Lori Esposito Murray, President of the Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board, Dowling talks about the responsibility of business leaders amidst today’s tumultuous political environment: to be at the forefront of the conversation on racial inequality and to ensure their organization is creating employment opportunities for low-income, minority communities.
As it relates to financial dislocation and unemployment, Dowling states, “We will be suffering the results of COVID-19 for another decade. To the extent that you can, expand your employment opportunities in those [low-income, minority] communities because employment is the core, fundamental premise on which good, sound communities are built.”
The CEO Forum series features CEOs from across American industry who focus on actionable insights to address underlying challenges of economic opportunity, childhood education, health care, workforce skills development, workplace equality and corporate governance.
